Free Wilderness
I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia and brain damage that I received when I was a baby. I attended special classes. I used to hear voices and had hallucinations. Then I hitchhiked throughout the streets of New York City and slept on the A train.
I finally got some help from the Adult Learning Center in Birmingham that helped people with learning disabilities. However, I fell asleep in a park in Birmingham; I was picked up by police and brought to the UAB psychiatric ward. While there, my doctor referred me the 1920 Club. While at the 1920 Club I paid attention to our art teacher and learned a lot. The 1920 Club has saved my life. The 1920 Club has made me more independent.
I’m a self-taught artist. I do the kind art that I do because it relaxes my mind and keeps from thinking crazy thoughts.
