Sweet Dreams

I had a nervous breakdown in High School at the age of sixteen due to my parent’s divorce. The next year I tried to commit suicide. After I graduated from high school I moved to Elk’s Center in Montgomery for nine months. It was there that I learned I was allergic to Prozac when I had a major seizure. In 1981, I moved into a group home, with only street clothes and a suitcase. During my 23 years, there I earned my A.S. in General Education from Calhoun Community College.

In 2004, when I moved into an apartment, I vowed I would join every free organization to serve as an advocate for the mentally ill. I have achieved my goal. I have been employed for thirteen years as a janitor and am one of the founding members of Our Place Drop-In Center. I have taken sewing classes and volunteer as a Sunday school teacher at my church. If anyone needs my help, I try to give them the best advice possible.
