What Recovery is Like to Me
I was a chronic heroin user. I have been diagnosed with severe depression and Deep Vein Thrombosis. I have lost my best friends to heroin. I have had to control my blood clots with medication to live day to day. My depression came right after being diagnosed with my blood clot disorder.
Creating art helps me to control my addiction and depression. Recovery and art has saved my life. My mother is so proud of me becoming independent and clean because of my love of recovery. I was just born with the ability to be creative. I have a hard time explaining what I'm thinking so I must draw it out. Anyone can see a tree and draw one. I think it is the artist's responsibility to draw what others can't see, so I love surrealism. Art gives me the excitement drugs do but doesn't kill me. I forever am grateful for my ability to create art to enlighten my life.
